Thu Feb 7 We enjoyed returning to our default Thursday night format. Our new member Peter was coaxed into making a debut in our open mic session and stunned us all with his expert playing of "Blackbird". This was the best debut since John Micallef's "Hotel California". Bob has returned to remind us what a great voice he has on a tune that only Bette knew when Bob challenged us. Some suggestions from Book 1-6 were auditioned and we've noted those ones that we could mould into Repertoire songs. After continuing this "search for a song" process this week, I'll apply some tweaks and add them to our Candidates book for trialling along with the others there.
Thu Jan 31 Following our Kiama Show performance, we can now return to our default format. We can start out with a session of simply playing any songs suggested from the floor. Then we can run an open mic session during which any individual or group may present a song they've been rehearsing. Then we can start workshopping any songs that might be suitable for the whole group to perform at future public concerts - these may be songs already in the Candidates book or ones that a member might bring to try out on the night. At some stage though, we would like to discuss as a group how we might want to fill out our performance calendar for 2019 - as per the questions raised in an earlier group email.
Kiama Show performance In spite of the hot and cramped conditions under the Café de Rude tent, we managed another fine performance that our audience enjoyed. Much appreciation must go to those hardy Buskers who set up our sound gear and in some cases sung and played for almost four hours ! I thought that the Travelling Ukeberries chose their songs well for the occasion and are sounding more and more accomplished. Afterwards, we seemed to agree that the full Buskers group must only be on the main stage next time, especially as organisers are trying to arrange a cover for the 2020 edition.
